The Pasadena Roseway Safe Streets Network will establish a connected network of safe routes throughout the city of Pasadena, with an emphasis on encouraging travel by bicycle, scooter, skateboard, rollerblades, and walking.
Motivation
Encouraging travel by bike, scooter, skateboards, or walking holds many benefits for the people and government of Pasadena: safer streets, lower costs, better air quality, less traffic, and better health, just to name a few. Research tells us that the best way to encourage more active travel is to build safe routes to do so. This project aims to create more safe routes in Pasadena, to increase rates of active travel, and so make our city safer and cleaner for everyone.
Design
A connected network will make it easy to get to all parts of the city
Connectivity should prioritize high travel areas, including schools, shopping, and public transit stations
All routes in the network should be safe for bikes, scooters, and pedestrians
ADA accessibility should be included in all designs to enhance safety and to ensure the whole city is accessible to everyone
The network should build on existing safe routes and city planning, including the 2015 Bicycle Action Plan
