Beginner’s Bagel Ride

Local volunteers are building biking confidence - one bagel at a time.

Riding on the street can be scary! In fact, 60% of Americans say they want to ride a bike sometimes, but are prevented from doing so because they lack safe bike routes.

Of course, the best way to help with this problem is to build a network of safe bike routes! But, for now we’ve got to ride on the streets that we have. To help with this, Pasadena CSC volunteers are creating a series of rides that are designed to build skills and confidence in beginning riders. The Beginner Bagel Ride takes a six mile loop around Pasadena’s Playhouse Village and Old Pasadena shopping districts. Participants practice bike skills, learn the basics of traffic laws, and discuss practical issues like locking up bikes safely and riding transit. And - of course - we make a stop for bagels!

The Bagel Ride was designed by local residents who are certified cycling instructors trained by the League of American Bicyclists, and includes content from the Smart Cycling curriculum. The ride was also described by Pasadena Now.

We’ve hosted three bagel rides so far, and we hope you will join us for the next one. Check the Pasadena CSC Events Calendar for up-coming Bagel Rides and other events. I hope you’ll have a bagel with us soon!

You never have to ride far to find a bagel, because they are always a-round.
