Advanced Tech Makes Cyclists Invisible on Union Street
Some residents are unable to see cyclists on Union Street, possibly due to alien cloaking device or other advanced technology

For months, some people in Pasadena have been reporting that they are unable to see anyone riding a bike on the Union Street bike path. A new study reveals that, in fact, lots of people are using the bike path, suggesting that the cyclists may be using an advanced technology, such as an alien cloaking device, to remain hidden from view.
Mayor Victor Gordo, in January, 2024, noted that he is unable to see the cyclists, saying “… we've gotta be careful about that, now that we've seen what's happening on Union Street. We were told there would be hundreds and thousands of bicyclists going back and forth—that's— that's not what we've seen.” Also tricked by the advanced technology, Pasadena Chamber of Commerce CEO Paul Little told the Planning Commission in July, 2025, “As we see with Union Street, the installation of millions of dollars in signals, curbs and re-striping has not significantly increased bicycle usage there.”
A recent study used sophisticated measurement techniques to reveal the invisible cyclists: the author stood on the corner of Lake and Union Street for about 20 minutes holding his phone. In that time, he was able to photograph more than 30 people riding bikes, both on the Union Street bike path and on Lake Avenue. Statistical analysis suggests that over the course of a whole day, a lot of people are riding bikes on Union Street.
Other people have shared similar reports. A post on reddit raises the topic. The post has more than 40 comments, most of them reporting that lots of people bike on Union Street, with sightings shockingly common. "Whenever I ride that route, I've never been the only cyclist out using the lanes,” reports reddit user cameljamz.
Why are some residents unable to see the people on bikes? This author believes that an advanced technology could be hiding the cyclists from view, especially when the observer is looking out of a car window. It could be an alien cloaking device, or maybe an advanced military technology being developed at JPL. Possibly cyclists are hiding themselves using ninja skills or mutant super-powers. In any case, what’s clear is that there are a LOT of people riding bikes on Union Street, but they are invisible to some residents.
An alternative theory claims that bike lanes can look more empty than they are because they are very efficient and bikes are harder to notice than cars (See 1, 2, 3). But, I’m pretty sure it’s the aliens.
Bike riders may also be using teleportation to reach the bike path, since Union Street does not connect to any safe bike routes. Alarmingly, the city could someday have even more invisible people riding bikes. “There's not going to be a huge uptick in cycling until we have a usable network of safe routes,” writes cameljamz.
Use of this cloaking technology is considered highly dangerous. It is terrible that these cyclists are tricking residents into believing they do not exist. If you encounter an invisible cyclist, please report it immediately to authorities so that this dangerous menace can be stopped.
